What’s Involved?
FREE Consultation
Initial phone or video assessment where I listen to the concerns you have about your child and explore your unique family situation. During this consultation I can assess the best way to help you and how my expertise will be of use. It may be that I can also direct you to other services and professionals that can also be of benefit to your family.
Comprehensive Medical Assessment
I will meet the entire family face to face, which is the best way for us to get to know each other personally and for me to assess the family dynamics. I will take a thorough medical, family and educational history, as well as a physical medical examination if required. Speaking to the parents and child as a family first, and then individually is an important step when it comes to connecting and building trust with you. By the end of the session I will offer my insights, suggestions and produce and IEP (Individualised Educational Plan) that we can move forward with. There is no obligation to continue with further lessons if you feel this is enough.
Baking Lessons
Going forward, whilst cooking with your child (this can be done virtually), I can make more detailed observations about their specific abilities and difficulties. The lessons will be specifically aimed at the targets we agreed in the IEP whilst taking into account the priorities of the child at all times. I set practical activities to continue with at home and give “homework” - pictures can be sent in for “marking” and further suggestions.
Younger children may or may not need the parents present during the lesson depending on their ability. Older children and teenagers will have confidential sessions unless they specifically request parents to be there. They can have a quiet cup of tea in another room whilst we work.
No minimum number of lessons are required and we can continue to work together for as long as you need. All treats made during the lessons and homework are yours to enjoy as a family or share with friends!
